Airport Tax Refund

Last year i booked a flight to Guilin through AirAsia. In fact i’m supposed to be traveling to China with the boyfriend July this year but we decided not to go instead. All of the sudden Guilin didn’t seemed appealing LOL. (Not that it’s not a place worth going. It’s has a rather amazing landscape you know).

So that’s RM700 down the drain.

I was thinking what a waste it was but i know very well that i would not get any refund from GoInsure. The refund is only applicable for certain circumstances such as hospitalization or death of loved ones and etc. But knowing this fact and accepting that i had thrown a few hundred bucks away without any compensation are entirely two different things. I searched the net for loopholes but found none.

I however found out that you could get a airport tax refund for any missed flights.

Now, AirAsia doesn’t advertise the fact that you could get a tax refund, in fact you will only be refunded if you contacted them for this purpose and only via email. Here’s how you do it.

1) Send an email to AirportTaxRefund@airasia.com regarding your request for airport tax refund. In the email include:

a) Payment by credit card:
> The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number

OR

b) Payment by Direct Debit or Cash or Travel Agent:
> The Reservation/ Booking Reference Number
> Bank Account Number
> Bank Name
> Name of Account Holder (Refund can only be given to the person named as a guest in the booking and not to a third party).

Note: The mode of refund will depend on the guest’s original mode of payment when the seat was purchased. The refund can only be given to the person(s) named in the booking and not to a third party, in accordance to the mode of payment for the seat.

2) Wait for acknowledgment within 15 working days.

3) All Airport Tax refunds shall be subjected to a Processing Fee specified in our Fee Schedule.

Under any circumstance that you do not receive any reply from AirAsia, i would suggest to then submit an online feedback form in their “Contact Us” page (as had i) because we all know that AirAsia’s customer service line is always congested and complicated, you have no idea how many buttons i was asked to press in able to get to the wrong department.

This would almost guarantee an acknowledgement within a day or two and your airport tax refund will be debited in your account within 30 working days.

It isn’t much but it’s better than nothing. You could buy a decent jacket with the money you know :P . So, good luck!
